I’m shocked that it took me this long to share this. But here is my favorite climbing video of all-time…
‘Jaw-dropping,’ is a word, like ‘awesome’ or ‘incredible,’ that probably gets used a bit too often. But my mouth actually opened when I saw the header picture of this piece about an artist and his daily journal. I am pretty awful at trying to maintain a journal of any kind, but this is truly inspiring me to want to try. I think a key is remembering that it doesn’t simply have to be some words recounting the events of the day. Make art.
There will never be enough pieces illuminating athletes sharing their personal struggles with mental health disorders. These people are not superhuman. I remember noticing Nickademus de la Rosa mostly in the background of the original 2014 Barkley Marathons documentary. I kind of always wondered what he was up to. Turns out he’s been running the mountains around San Luis Obispo, an area I’ve spent some time and dealing with his demons.
And a perfect companion to that piece is this interview with author Steve Magness. I am particularly drawn to the questions and answer regarding emotions being a messenger rather than a dictator. There are both healthy and unhealthy ways to conceptualize that. Maybe I’ll write some thoughts about it.
To lighten the mood, this is a short satirical piece from the perspective of John Hancock explaining his outsized signature on the Declaration of Independence. That’s all. It’s pretty funny. I wish I had a knack for coming up with simple ideas such as this and executing them with concision.
My life has essentially become an endless loop of going on a trip and then, upon returning home, immediately diving into preparations for the next trip. I am not disappointed by this, far from it. There’s something I enjoy deeply about the planning phase. Anyway, this is what’s next…
…the happy place. One of the rare things that gets me palpably excited. Aiming to spend time in some new (to me) high country zones then snag a valley campsite for a couple nights if we’re lucky. You’ll surely hear all about it.
Keep moving forward, people.
