I know people might cringe or look at me sideways when I say that the day the Bucks won the NBA title (two years ago yesterday) was the best day of my life. But hear me out. I’ve been in love with basketball since I was in grade school. I happened to grow up in a state where our professional team was renowned for mediocrity for decades and a distant third in popularity. I spent my young adult life watching a revolving door of awful teams and needing to repeatedly ask bartenders if they could turn the game on that they didn’t know was happening. I was gifted a once-in-a-lifetime superstar and human being to FINALLY lead the team to new heights. And I was in the most raucous environment imaginable when that man lifted them to a championship, as the prophesy foretold. C’mon…
Some months back, I shared a piece about Courtney Dauwalter and her pain cave. Well, this past week she did some more proving of its effectiveness. Simply finishing both Western States and Hardrock - two the biggest, toughest 100-mile races in the country - in the same year is an achievement. They occur just 3 weeks(!!!) apart. Winning both is damn near impossible. Never mind SETTING COURSE RECORDS FOR EACH in the same month. That is some legendary shit.
I love trampolines, but I’m kind of terrified of trampoline parks, what with my ankles made of Doritos and all. But I have to say, this outdoor Canadian trampoline park is both beautiful to the eye and looks like tons of fun. Maybe I’d try it if I had it all to myself.
It probably says something significant about me that I get more concerned for dogs that I see as companions of homeless people than I do for the people themselves. Well, this veterinary conference in Denver ended up turning into a free clinic for the pets of those experiencing homelessness, and I can’t think of a much better deed than that.
One week closer. Stay focused, people.
